What it is

Based on an ancient Chinese therapy, reflexology involves manipulation of specific reflex areas in the foot, hands and ears that correspond to other parts of the body. Sometimes referred to as zone therapy, this bodywork involves application of pressure to these reflex zones to stimulate body organs and relieve areas of congestion.

It is fully clothed apart from your shoes and socks, it is deeply restful, and it is a good entry point if you are not comfortable with a table massage. It is also a practical choice when the rest of the body is too sore or too guarded to be worked directly.

The session

How a reflexology appointment runs

1

Settle in

Shoes and socks off, everything else stays on. The room is warm and the lighting is low.

2

Work the zones

Systematic pressure through the reflex map of the foot, then hands or ears where indicated.

3

Dwell where it is congested

Tender zones get more time and lighter pressure.

4

Close and advise

A brief note on what was tender, and what to drink and do afterwards.

“Shawn is amazing. He's been helping me with my posture. A blessing from GOD. Only drawback because he's so good is lack of appointments besides the monthly one :(”

Questions

Reflexology: the questions people ask

Do I have to take my clothes off?

No — only your shoes and socks. Reflexology is one of the fully clothed options on the menu.

Is it ticklish?

The pressure used is firm and deliberate rather than light, which is exactly what stops it being ticklish for most people.

What if my feet are tender?

Tell me and pressure is adjusted zone by zone. Tenderness in a particular zone is information, not a reason to push harder.

Can I book this if I have plantar fasciitis?

Yes, and it works well alongside sports therapy. The foot rarely improves without the calf and hip being addressed too.

How will I feel afterwards?

Most people feel notably relaxed and sometimes sleepy. Drink water and avoid scheduling anything demanding straight after if you can.

Is there anything that would rule it out?

Active foot infection, open wounds, recent foot surgery or a current DVT. Tell me about any of these when you book.
