What it is
Neuromuscular treatment is a deep tissue massage that releases trigger points, allowing muscles to relax and heal. Pain patterns are interrupted and stress reduction is achieved. It is the preferred style of insurance companies and chiropractors, largely because it is specific: pressure goes where the referral pattern points, not everywhere.
The recognizable moment in a trigger point session is when pressure on one spot reproduces the exact ache you came in with somewhere else. That is the confirmation that we are on the right point — and it is why this work can solve complaints that broad massage has not.

What it helps
- Pain that refers away from its source
- Recurring knots in the same handful of spots
- Jaw, temple and base-of-skull tension
- Shoulder and arm ache from repetitive work
- Hip and glute pain that travels down the leg
What is included
- Mapping of your pain referral pattern
- Palpation to find the active points that reproduce your symptom
- Sustained ischemic pressure held to release
- Post-release lengthening so the muscle re-learns its resting length
- Self-treatment guidance for the points you can reach
The session
How a trigger point therapy appointment runs
Describe it precisely
Where it starts, where it goes and what brings it on.
Locate the active points
The right point reproduces your symptom when pressed. That recognition is the test.
Hold to release
Steady pressure held until the tissue softens — usually 20 to 60 seconds per point.
Lengthen and rehearse
The muscle is taken through range, then you learn which points you can maintain at home.

“Shawn is amazing. He's been helping me with my posture. A blessing from GOD. Only drawback because he's so good is lack of appointments besides the monthly one :(”
Questions
Trigger Point Therapy: the questions people ask
Why does pressing one spot make a different area hurt?
That is referred pain, and it follows well-documented maps. Reproducing your symptom from a distant point is how we confirm the source.
How long is each point held?
Typically 20 to 60 seconds — long enough for the tissue to give, not so long that it becomes counterproductive.
Is this the same as dry needling?
The target is the same, the tool is not. This is done with hands and sustained pressure. Needling is performed by other providers.
Will one session fix it?
Often you will feel a clear change immediately. Points that have been active for years usually need a short series to stop reactivating.
Can I treat trigger points myself?
Some of them, yes, and I will show you which and how. Points around the neck and jaw are better left to hands that can feel what they are doing.
Why do chiropractors refer for this?
Because releasing the soft tissue that keeps pulling a joint out of position tends to make adjustments hold longer.
